Education & Outreach Provided by The Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh

We discuss needs and roadblocks with the community while providing diverse educational materials to those who need it.

We’re committed to educating the greater community about the needs of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and helping individuals and families navigate the I/DD service system.

Emmaus also works to raise awareness of the organization and serve as an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, and has provided more than 170 awareness presentations to local community organizations. Additionally, Emmaus provides direct opportunities for people to be part of its mission and build relationships with people with intellectual disabilities through a robust volunteer program.

Emmaus is working to create a more inclusive community for people with intellectual disabilities in our region.

Recognizing that a lack of knowledge and language barriers may prevent people of different cultural backgrounds from accessing services, Emmaus offers brochures about our programs in many languages (including Chinese-simplified, Chinese-traditional, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, and Turkish).

Emmaus is constantly working to build partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations in the greater community. We support residents and program participants in being part of all aspects of community life, whether its working, volunteering, shopping, dining out, joining a faith group, accessing healthcare, taking a class, or voting. We believe that Pittsburgh is a place where everyone belongs!

The Emmaus mission calls us to share our lives with one another.

Every time we welcome a new resident at Emmaus, we commit to providing the highest quality of care to that person for the rest of his or her life. That means sharing meals, working together, holding celebrations, facing our challenges, and building friendships. We value the unique gifts that each of our residents brings to this Community.
