Respite provides planned short-term care for individuals with intellectual disabilities on an as-needed basis, when their caregivers are temporarily unable to provide care.
Licensed Out-of-Home Respite care is available within our permanent homes, and is provided in 15-minute units, by experienced and caring staff in a one on one ratio. Respite guests participate in activities both at home (sometimes alongside our permanent residents) and in the community. Respite is an opportunity for individuals to experience greater independence and build new friendships, while caregivers have the comfort of knowing their loved one is receiving the highest quality of care.
Emmaus currently provides respite care in four locations: Jordan House (South Side) and Jericho House (Brookline) for women and Bethany House (Brookline) and Shiloh House (Mt. Lebanon) for men.
If you’re interested in applying for planned respite care, you may download a respite application here.
Emmaus also offers two in-home services, providing services to individuals in their private or family homes. For more information, visit our Home & Community Habilitation and Companion Services pages.
